I feel incredibly fulfilled that I had the honor and privilege to be a primary caregiver for my Mother, who passed away recently to a known terminal illness, Lung cancer. Her moving in with us allowed us to create new, cherished memories together. For that, I am eternally grateful.

My Experience with Primary Caregiving

My family was highly supportive in caring for my mother. We all coordinated our schedules, transportation, finances, physical and mental health, as well as all other aspects of our lives. We received tremendous support from her doctors, nurses, hospice staff, and other healthcare workers. Through caregiving, I gained a great deal of insight into the complexity of our healthcare system. Our healthcare professionals were excellent; they did everything they could to help ease her pain, improve her outcomes, and prolong her life. My family and I were nervous and unaware of what was to come. We were scared. Knowing more would have helped us better prepare ourselves for the future. I would say my family was affected individually and collectively during my mom’s care and after her passing.

Searching for Answers

Caring for a loved one is a rewarding and challenging experience, especially for those who have never experienced it before. During the busy schedule of caregiving, it is easy to forget that your needs are equally important. I had so many questions. I found that I was always searching for answers, but I only found them on occasion. I want to be part of a group that helps others find the answers and support they need. My family and I are still grieving, and we always will be, from losing Mom. Through my experience and those of my partners, professionals, and others with similar experiences, our new family, Guardians at Home, was formed.

We have the professional and personal experience needed to educate, support and guide you and your loved one.
