Our team at Guardians at Home is excited to share helpful blogs about our core focus items: cognition, nutrition, balance and sleep. Members will benefit from access to these blogs, which provide unique, informative resources and insights, particularly emphasizing the importance of balance exercises as a vital component of our services to promote overall health, stability, and injury prevention. This is extremely important for both older and younger individuals to address before it becomes a more severe issue. We will be offering resistance, balance, and multi-component training exercises to our members.
Importance of Resistance Training
Several studies were conducted by healthcare professionals who examined the effects of resistance training. In these studies, overall, the conclusion was that resistance training exercise interventions improved test results. These exercises are what enhanced test results.
Strength Training
- Dynamometer measurement
- Five-times sit-to-stand test
- Chair rise test
Balance Training
- Berg Balance Scale
- One Leg Standing Test
- Y-Balance Test
- Functional Reach Test
- ABC Scale
Mobility Training
- 6-minute walk test
- Timed up and go test
- 30-second chair stand test

Examining Balance Training
Studies indicate that balance training exercises enhance muscle strength, balance, gait, and mobility, resulting in a lower rate of falls. The tests used to assess were as follows: chair standing test, four-square step test, 2-minute step test, single-leg stance test, tandem stance test, ABC scale, modified clinical test of sensory organization and balance, local dynamic stability, and balance recovery. Timed Up and Go Test, the 6-minute walk test, and the functional reach test.
At Guardians at Home, we will explore the important topic of balance and why it matters so much. Balance exercises are not just about staying upright; they play a key role in helping your loved ones move around safely and confidently. Good balance helps them keep their independence, allowing them to do everyday tasks without needing help. By participating in balance exercises, they can improve their strength and coordination, which makes it easier to walk, get up from a chair, or even climb stairs. Overall, focusing on balance is essential for their well-being and freedom.
