Congrats, you have made the choice to allow others to assist you as you face the challenges of daily living.  This is a difficult choice to make, as it is challenging for us to admit that we may need help.  In making this choice your Guardian is someone who you trust and feel comfortable with allowing into your life.  Your Guardian is someone that has your best interest at heart and is aware of your healthcare decisions and what interventions you want.  They will be there to offer their assistance.  It is ok to allow several individuals be your Guardian.

Your Guardian is the person in your life that will carry out your wishes in the event you cannot make your own decisions.

Things to be aware of as a Guardian:

  • Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare decisions.
  • Durable Power of Attorney for Financial decisions.
  • Advanced Directive Completed.
  • Contact list for Medical Providers.
  • Contact list for Financial Interest (ie, Tax Person, Attorney, Accountant)
  • Verify where important documents are stored.
  • You must take care of yourself. Being a Guardian takes a toll on your physical and mental health.  TAKE TIME FOR YOU.
